Choosing an Insulation Contractor:

Before you select an insulation contractor, consider the type of insulation that will best suit your needs and budget. Loose fill insulation can be made of cellulose, fiberglass, mineral wool, perlite or vermiculite, may be poured or blown in, and may work better than batt or rigid board insulation in unusual spaces or nooks and crannies that are difficult to access; whereas batts are made to fit precisely between studs, and rigid board insulation can add structural strength. Reflective blankets can be very effective in attics where radiant heat transfer is a concern. Liquid foam insulation has a higher R value and can be injected into cavities in walls, floors and roofs, but requires specialized equipment and professional trained installers. If you are unsure of what is best for your project, talk to a variety of insulation contractors, get recommendations, and estimates.
